What’s the Best Championship Moment of 2008 So Far?
For the select few who read my spits and spats, I bet some might’ve been wondering where my ass has been over the past few days…And I thank you who were concerned for my well being! I’d like to tell you, but sadly enough I’d have to kill you! Oh what the hell, not like it’s going to hurt anyway! I wanted to have the Brett Favre Experience…You know, tease peeps into thinking I’m putting away my keyboard pecker, (come on people, get your head out of the gutter…Not that kind of pecker, think finger) for good and stop all my spitting techniques…Only then to reappear months later, (or in my case, days). Now I can honestly say I know what Brett Favre is going through. Hocking up luggies in supermarket parking lots aiming them for Lexus’s, BMWs, and Benz’s isn’t the same as spitting sports…And if you think it is, well, you’re just fooling yourself! Although I totally understand that everybody needs to try it for themselves before realizing what I did on my brief hiatus. But now I’m back!

Unfortunately I don’t know for how long due to unforeseen upcomings in the not too distant future. What upcomings? Wouldn’t you like to know? And if so read the freaking book! Nevertheless, I’m here today…And, well, during my brief underground period living as a Sporty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle it allowed me to reflect on the 2008 sports year, (seven months in). During these seven months of 2008 we’ve had the privilege to witness some epic sports championship moments! It seems like in this particular year, well, it has given us some of the most memorable “instant classics” one can ever remember in a 365-day span.

In sports, we as viewers live in/for the moment…Always remember where we were or what we were doing when something monumental in sports happens. The World Series earthquake, Buster Douglas’s 15-minutes of fame, Kirk Gibson’s homerun, Mark McGwire’s 62, N.C. State over Houston, Michael Jordan’s coming out party against Georgetown, Vince Young’s back-to-back Rose Bowl performances, George Mason’s Final Four run, the Red Sox comeback vs. them damn Yanks in the ALCS and so on and so forth. Surprisingly only seven months into an Olympic year no less we have had the pleasure to salivate like a big doggie in heat as we’ve witnessed some memorable shit in the world of sports! With no less all being championship moments.

It seems like ever since the Super Bowl, we’ve been greeted to an “one for the ages” on a monthly basis. Some thought that the SB42 was the greatest Super Bowl in history, but who knew that was just a prelude of what was to come for championship moments this calendar year. Why, can it get better than this?

After the epic game in February for numerous reasons, March Madness also gave us an epic NCAA Final Four Championship with Kansas prevailing over Memphis. Now, you can argue that Memphis choked here, thus making the game what it turned out to be…A great one. Still the fact remains that it was indeed great…Well, depending on whether you’re a Jayhawk fan or a Tiger Backer.

If this wasn’t enough last month gave us an epic performance from Tiger Woods at the U.S. Open…Although, I’m not sure if the word “epic” even begins to describe and do what he was able to accomplish in 91-holes of major championship golf justice! We’ve never seen anything like it, nor, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say we never will. The only thing that comes close to what Tiger achieved might be the whole Curt Schilling Bloody Sox deal on the mound in the Bronx. And speaking of a Boston team, the Celts gave an epic performance of their own enroute to hanging Championship Banner #17 and having Kobe Bryant wanting to do his best John Daly impression and make out with Jack Daniels all night long after game three. Where, just like everything else…We witnessed another monumental championship performance as the Celtics overcame a 24-point deficit and for all intense purposes winning Larry O’Brian’s golden ball on that night.

So if that’s not enough championship performances for ya, what about the shit Fresno State was able to do in the College World Series. We usually attach the word “Cinderella” to college teams around spring time, not in the dog days of summer. Although unlike in the month of March and early April, Cinderella doesn’t get the opportunity to wear the glass slipper…Always breaking! For these Underdogs, they accomplished what George Mason fell two games short of doing. And that damn thing is, this feat that they obtained would’ve been more recognized if it was the month of April instead of in June! We always want to watch Cinderella and all her glory in March, but that’s it. And why is that? Why do we have that perception?

And just when we think great championship moments of the year can’t get any better, we get another one. An “Instant Classic” as ESPN tagged Sunday’s Men’s Wimbledon Men's Final. Nadal and Federer again treated us to an epic championship performance. Some go as far to say “it’s the best tennis match they’ve ever seen.” Debatable, yes, but there’s no arguing that it ranks right up there with all the great championship performances we’ve seen so far in 2008. Surely, there’s more to come, but giving it’s almost that time of year to get caught up in rankings and polls, if you were going to construct a poll ranking these moments how would it look?

Here’s mine…
1. U.S. Open – Tiger on one leg
2. Super Bowl XLII – Giants over Patriots
3. Wimbledon men's final – Nadal over Federer
4. NCAA Final Four – Kansas over Memphis
5. NBA Finals – Celtics Game 3 comeback, and hang banner #17
6. College World Series – Fresno State

Good Luck…It’s not as easy as it looks!

What are the Best Games of the 2008 College Football Season
Well, here we are…July 1. About a month from now co-eds will be returning to campus life to embark on another year of getting smarter, (supposedly) while getting poorer in the process. Love college! With campuses one month away from having their property invaded by hormone raging party animals, that can only mean one thing…At long last, college football season will be upon us! Let’s drink to that!

Yes, right now everybody is filled with anticipation and is very much looking forward to the season kicking off! Why the anticipation is on the same level as knowing you have a co-ed tutor(s) that just happens to be fully willing to teach you some tricks of the trade in a course referred to as Bedroom Activities 101…A core class, if you will. Yes, we’re talking that much excitement…Hell, even I’m creaming in my Calvin Klein’s and I’m a Notre Dame fan! Although get back to me the first week of October…All my creaming should be all dried up by then!

Nonetheless, we’re all giddy resembling the co-eds for the season to be upon us. However, I do have a question…And damn it, it’s a freaking good one too! Every year we always get in this same mind frame about college football being on the horizon…For what? Every year, we’re always feeling as if that sport that we love to watch every Saturday afternoon in the fall has stuck a dick up our asses come late December, courtesy of the BCS. And it’ll be no different again this season either! So then why do we love torturing ourselves year after year after year? I guess some questions just seemingly have no answers to.

By now the hundreds of pre-season college football publications have hit newsstands…And either you’re already depressed about the season starting, thanks to those damn things, or they’re playing you like Bambi on stage at Lipstixx R Us….Making that blood flow, only for a potential major let down! While predictions are like ass holes, everybody having one, and we tend to disagree with a shit load, (pardon the pun) of them…Though, that’s what sports, particularly this sport is all about! Everything is debatable, thanks in large part to the BCS system! I’m leaving that alone for now…We’ll have plenty of discussions on it over the coming months! This is the exciting time…I’m not putting a black cloud over it right off the bat!

Besides being an exciting time of the year, this is also the time that Stewart Mandel of CNNSI.com comes out of hibernation, (or is it a closet)…To reemerge. And that he has! Our CNN friend Stewy has created his "Ten season-defining games in '08". Now we all know this is a money shot in the dark…Hell, even as he points out, "A year ago this time, no one would have predicted a Thanksgiving weekend game between Missouri and Kansas would wind up one of the most highly viewed of the season. Or that USC's game against Stanford would carry greater implications than its subsequent trip to Cal." And that’s the truth of the matter…We all look at games before the season begins, circling the ones that we figure are going to be must sees. Only then look like the defensive coordinators white board as he tries to make in game adjustments on the sideline.

So here’s what Big Stew thinks…
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/stewart_mandel/06/30/ten.defining.games/index.html?eref=T1

Personally, I agree with 1-3. The Red River Rivalry, I’m not sure of…Same goes for OSU-Wisc. Other than that, the BYU-Utah game, well the fact that it’s a game from two non-BCS schools might have something to do with it, but I’m not sure of that one either? I get it, for all intensive purposes it could be a tilt of epic proportions, I’m just not feeling it. Perhaps a couple more beers will help the cause.

Impressive list by Stewy…What do you peeps think? Although, it’s on paper, and well everything looks good on paper on July 1. However, how will this list hold out? How many in season adjustments will have to be made? Stay tuned….
Shannon Owens Believes "Religion" is Why Shaun Alexander is Still Jobless?
Good question! Glad it has an answer now! Considering this cat was the sickest cat in the league a few years back…Seemingly earning him League MVP honors. Although that’s the past and presently SA37 has fallen off the face of the earth since then…Aww yes, the life story of a running back in the NFL today. One day chicken, the next day feathers.

Still the question remains, why hasn’t this guy landed on a roster yet? Surely a team can use his talents, (whatever that means today). Well good news, this unsolved mystery appears to be solved! And we can all thank a writer named Shannon J. Owens for uncovering the real reason, in an article in the Orlando Sentinel this weekend that is so ignorant and off the wall that it would be offensive if it weren't so easy to dismiss. Hell, it makes not having Victoria Secrets Gopher Gear and UCF’s new tailgating bylaws actually have merit behind them! Yeah well, that’s the Sentinel for ya! Normally I’d be surprised by this stupidity, but given the source, (Orlando Sentinel) well that explains it all!

Somehow this jagoffette suggests that the reason former Seahawks running back Shaun Alexander is not currently under contract to an NFL team is that he's a devout Christian. Owens writes that Alexander's devotion to his church makes him "a pariah to some NFL general managers." Intersting, to say the least! Although, I suppose it should be no surprise that Shannon’s last name is Owens after this completely off the wall remark! What’s up with this last name? It’s obvious to me that they aren’t born with the thinking sense!

If Ms. Shannon could think and knew anything about the game of football, she’d know that Alexander is "a pariah" to NFL GM’s because he's a bad player, plain and simple. He's averaged three and a half yards a carry the last two years, and he turns 31 before the season starts. Um yeah, typically NFL teams like a little more production than 3.5 yards per carry over the past two seasons…That’s why he’s "a pariah"! Oh that and his age! Somehow suggesting that he’s not currently under contract to an NFL team due to his devotion to his church can be definitely construed as a form of racism on the religious level! It’s sure as hell stereotyping! Are you suggesting this or it’s on the GM’S? HMM?

It’s crystal clear to see that this broad has no idea what she’s talking about…Never heard of Tony Dungy I guess? He has other agendas on his plate of life besides football, however somehow for whatever reason has no problems being employed…Wonder why that is? Oh yeah, he WINS! He gets the job DONE! The fact of the matter is that a majority of NFL owners, general managers, coaches and players are Christians. There is no anti-Christian bias in the NFL. There's an anti-bad player bias. They aren’t out get getcha! This isn’t some "race issue" that so many feels exists in the league! But kudos to you Ms. Moronette for somehow trying to pin Alexander’s being jobless on religion…Can’t definitely say, ain’t never heard this kind of stupidity before! I guess the saying is right, "There’s an idiot born every minute!" Thanks Shannon for proving that statement correct!

And people wonder why the media gets a bad wrap…It’s for idiot shit like this! Sad part about it, she gets paid to write her stupidity! Hey Shannon, rule number one about football…If you're a bad football player, you can't get a job, thus the case with Alexander. Rule number one about journalism…If you’re a bad writer, well I guess you still can get a job! Just look at Shannon Owens!
Stephon Marbury's All Mike’d Up
Sorry, I just got a freaking brain freeze from watching this 9:37 sit down with Starbury, so I might be short on words here. However, I’m so glad that the one-year at Georgia Tech really helped Star become more of a babbling moron and less of an intellectual individual. The Yellow Jackets must be so proud!

In case you missed the interview, today marks the one-year anniversary of the babbling idiot, well just babbling. Let it be known, after watching the 9:37, you might feel like you just ate a gallon of Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough ice cream…Oh yeah, Starbury is going to give you one hell of a brain overload with intriguing thoughts on Isiah Thomas, Kevin Garnett, and of course a lot of mumble!

WHAT? Make any sense to you? OUCH…Why do I just feel like I went Wade Boggs on a cross country flight? Happy Anniversary Mar, for showing us what that one year at Tech did for you Shitforbrains!
